Grid-tie systems are your personal contribution to the Kyoto Protocol Agreement. They reduce carbon dioxide emissions, produce energy for the community, and reduce or eliminate your monthly utility bills. More specifically, a photovoltaic grid-tie system is a private solar panel installation connected to the grid in order to generate electricity for the local energy provider during the daylight hours. Because it generates electricity for a public utility, laws oblige the utility company to compensate the private owner for the energy produced. The cost of this energy is subtracted from your electricity bill. In other words, one can reduce monthly electricity bills substantially or completely while producing clean, renewable energy free of CO2 emissions. All grid-tie components comply with US NEC standards and are certified by the Underwriters Laboratory (UL).
Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) Since the grid provides the energy at night, grid-tie systems do not require a battery bank. However, a good option is to add a bank of batteries to the grid-tie system to store energy for the occasional blackouts, thus creating an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system that switches on automatically the instant the grid blacks out.
