Hydro Energy

Advantages of a Hydroelectric System
There is no better alternative energy system in remote areas than a well-designed micro-hydroelectric plant. The power generated from a good water source enables all the creature comforts of modern life. Other advantages are:

Up to one-tenth the cost of a comparable solar system
Requires smaller battery banks
Constant year-round energy supply regardless of weather conditions
Easily handles high energy consumption appliances
Supplies potable, utility, and irrigation water needs of a project using the same source, eliminating the use of electricity to distribute water

How Hydroelectric Systems Work
Essentially a micro-hydro system functions by conducting water from a source through a pipeline that ends at your installation site in a high pressure stream that rotates a turbine at high speed, generating electricity. Hydro power output is determined by water’s volume times its fall. In general, any site with more than 100 feet of fall makes an excellent micro-hydro site, but sites with less fall can be very productive also.

Determining Your Feasibility of Hydroelectric Power
Site Inspection: A site visit to determine feasibility of a source resolves the energy needs of a project. The inspection includes GPS mapping of the watershed, and recording height, flow and distance measurements. The data from the site evaluation is used to determine the best type of hydro system to employ
